Peter Symonds College | Closure Day Date Change

CLOSURE DAY DATE CHANGE

Posted: Monday, 18 January, 2010

Following the recent disruption to college because of bad weather, it has been decided to postpone the staff training closure day from Friday 5 February to Friday 28 May.

As students will be aware, most teaching staff were able to set additional work for their students during the snow closure, either by direct email, or via the college student intranet. Many subject departments have also run additional lunch-time workshops sessions since college re-opened, to fill gaps and help last minute revision. Thus we hope that disruption to learning was kept to a minimum. Nonetheless, there is no substitute for face-to-face teaching and learning. Hence we will use 5 February as a normal teaching day, allowing some ‘catch up’ in a prime teaching time part of the year. The alternative date in May is within the early part of the summer exam period and will affect far fewer students.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank publicly the many staff who went to quite extraordinary lengths to ensure that exams did go ahead from 11 January in spite of the conditions. Congratulations too, to the vast majority of students who struggled in to sit those exams regardless of travel problems.
